Stolen vehicle tears through construction zone, damages three parked cars: Winnipeg police

A 33-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly drove a stolen vehicle through a construction zone over the weekend.

According to police, officers were patrolling the area of McPhillips Street and Pacific Avenue on 12:30 a.m. Sunday when they saw a vehicle travelling west, speeding and driving through stop signs.

Police said the driver approached a construction area in the 1900 block of Alexander Avenue and hit three parked vehicles. One of the parked vehicles had a driver inside who sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene. The three vehicles were left inoperable.

The driver of the speeding vehicle was taken into custody. According to police, the suspect had an outstanding warrant, the vehicle involved was reported stolen, and several edged weapons were found during the arrest.

The driver was charged with multiple offences including dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime, driving while prohibited and four counts of possession of a weapon.

He was detained in custody and none of the charges have been proven in court.
