A multimillion dollar donation has been made to STARS air ambulance. On Friday, STARS announced Manitoba Blue Cross has pledged $3 million to support the air ambulance service over the next decade. STARS noted this is the largest donation it’s ever received in this province. To recognize the gift, STARS is renaming its base at Winnipeg airport in honour of the company. It will now be known as the STARS Manitoba Blue Cross Winnipeg Base. That base will also be getting bigger with an expansion planned. “This expansion featuring new signage to proudly display our partnership with Manitoba Blue Cross will include a state-of-the-art medical simulation lab and additional space for crew and equipment, enhancing our training, improving readiness and ensuring we’re prepared to deliver even better care to Manitobans,” said Dr. John Froh, STARS president and CEO. STARS has been operating in Manitoba since 2009, completing more than 10,000 missions since.
