A development next to a transit garage is getting the green light – despite resident pushback. On Tuesday, a Winnipeg city council appeal committee heard concerns from some South Osborne residents over a proposed 126-foot mixed-use development on Osborne Street. The majority of those who spoke and submitted letters were generally in favour of more affordable housing, however parking availability and the building’s height concerned them. “It’s cramming a whole bunch of people into one small space. And then it crowds the neighbours too,” Dana Sweity told CTV News Wednesday. Their appeal was unanimously denied. “I think this is a thoughtful development,” Councillor Cindy Gilroy said at the appeal meeting. “I know that there might be some challenge with parking.” According to a city report, there will be 17 parking spaces on site and dozens more in a parkade next door. According to the developer, UWCRC 2.0 Inc, the parkade will be two storeys and have a total of 111 spots. The development itself will be built on a vacant city-owned lot next to a Winnipeg Transit garage.
