The ninth annual Hero in You campaign is officially underway. Manitobans are being asked to roll up their sleeves and donate blood to help those that need it most. Canadian Blood Services is looking to fill 1,449 appointment slots throughout the province this November. “It only takes an hour of your time and that need is only in your arm for about 10 to 15 minutes,” said Brett Lawrence with Canadian Blood Services. “So it’s an hour of your time, slight discomfort and you get to save up to three lives.” If people are wanting to book an appointment, they can do so by visiting blood.ca, calling 1-888-2-DONATE, or by using the Give Blood app. Lawrence said about half of all Canadians are actually able to donate blood, but only roughly two per cent actually will do so. It will be easier than ever for Manitobans to donate, as Canadian Blood Services will also be setting up mobile donation events across the province throughout November.
