New numbers out of Statistics Canada reveal Manitoba’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the country. According to the report released on Friday, the province’s unemployment rate declined 0.6 percentage points in April, bringing it down to five per cent. In terms of the employment rate, the agency notes Manitoba saw “little variation” last month, remaining around 64 per cent. When broken down by demographic, the numbers show the unemployment rate is higher among young Manitobans ages 15 to 24, coming in at a rate of 10.3 per cent. In terms of those ages 25 and over, the unemployment rate sits at four per cent for men and 4.1 for women. Across the entire country, employment remained largely unchanged at a rate of 60.5 per cent. Meanwhile, Canada’s unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 6.9 per cent. The full report is available online.
