A major roadway in western Winnipeg is getting a significant upgrade. Work has already started on improving Corydon Avenue. Improvements will be happening on the stretch of road from Shaftesbury Boulevard to Kenaston Boulevard. The Corydon Avenue Renewal project is costing $7.5 million, split between all three levels of government: $3.6 million from the city, $1.935 million from the province, and $2.015 million from the federal government. “This is another example where the federal, provincial and municipal governments are working in partnership to invest in the infrastructure needs that the citizens of Winnipeg require,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. Work for the project includes resurfacing lanes, adding a multi-use path from Park Boulevard to Kenaston, putting in new transit stops and shelters, and upgrading sewer and water systems in the area. “This project is very vital,” said Gillingham. “Not only for roads, but we’re adding more active transportation. So cycling infrastructure, walking infrastructure, it’ll be better for people using transit as well. So this is a big improvement to Corydon Avenue, which is a key route in the city of Winnipeg, especially in west Winnipeg.” Crews began working on the road in late May and it’s expected to be finished by late 2026. The mayor is asking everyone to be patient while this stretch receives the needed repairs. “I want to thank business owners and residents and motorists for their patience as we do this road construction, not only on Corydon Avenue, but across Winnipeg as well.”
