Kelvin Goertzen, the longtime P.C. MLA and former Premier of Manitoba, says he will not be seeking re-election. In a post on social media, Goertzen thanked the voters who have supported him since 2003. He said that he was making the announcement now, to give people time to consider seeking the nomination and time for the party to plan. During his time in the government, Goertzen held a number of cabinet positions including Health, Education and Justice minister. Following the resignation of Brian Pallister in 2021, he briefly served as Premier until the P.C. Party elected Heather Stefanson as its new leader. Peter Smith, the president of the P.C. Party of Manitoba tells CTV News he wishes Kelvin and his family all the best, and said he will miss having his great experience and knowledge of the party close at hand. Party leader Obby Khan is expected to release a statement on Goertzen Wednesday morning.
