The Winnipeg police homicide unit is now investigating after an assault victim died of his injuries on Christmas eve. Police said officers had been called to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Lydia Street on Dec. 21, 2025. There, police said, officers found a man with serious injuries. The man – since identified as 42-year-old Michael Allen Harrington – was taken to hospital in critical condition. Major crimes took over the investigation at that point, arresting a 27-year-old man the following day and charging him with aggravated assault. However, police said the victim died of his injuries on Dec. 24, 2025. Police confirmed the homicide unit is now investigating, but did not specify if further charges have been laid at this point. Police are asking anyone with information to call homicide investigators at 204-986-6508. Anonymous tips can also be made by contacting Crime Stoppers online or by calling 204-786-8477.
