HazMat team contains ammonia leak at Winnipeg PepsiCo

No injuries were reported after an uncontained ammonia leak at an industrial building.

Crews were called to PepsiCo Canada’s Ellice Avenue location shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

In an email to CTV News Winnipeg, the city said its hazardous materials (HazMat) team found an uncontained ammonia leak.

“Firefighters evacuated the building and all surrounding buildings in the area as a precaution while they worked on scene,” the release said.

The city said the site was secured and the leak was contained. Crews left shortly before 5 p.m.

CTV News reached out to PepsiCo Canada for comment. We have not yet heard back.
