Four people were taken to hospital after multiple vehicles collided in Winnipeg’s North End on Friday. The Winnipeg Police Service said officers responded to the area of Main Street and Jarvis Avenue at 5:30 p.m. on July 17, where a passing officer was already administering first aid to a motorcycle driver. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews took over medical care at the scene, transporting three patients to hospital in unstable condition and one in critical condition, police said in a news release. All four have since been stabilized, though the motorcycle driver suffered potentially life-altering injuries, police said. According to a preliminary investigation, a BMW carrying two occupants and a motorcycle driver and passenger were travelling southbound alongside one another—both described by police as speeding—when a Ford Escape pulled into their path. The Ford clipped the rear of the BMW, sending it into a building on the west side of Main Street, police said. The motorcycle then struck the rear of the Escape, throwing both riders from the bike. The BMW also struck another vehicle with two occupants before coming to a stop, police said. Police say speed is believed to be the primary factor behind the crash. The Winnipeg Police Service’s Traffic Division is continuing to investigate.
