Over 360,000 people took part in the ethno-cultural experience of Folklorama this year. There were 45 pavilions highlighting cultures from around the world during the 14-day event that wrapped up this past weekend. In total, 972 shows were put on during the two-week stretch, with 362,397 guests enjoying the festivities. “We’re thankful to each and every guest who supported our 55th festival this year,” said Folklorama’s executive director Teresa Cotroneo in a news release. “Seeing the delight people experience when they discover a new food item or cultural tradition is what keeps us all excited and inspired.” She noted this event wouldn’t have been a success if it wasn’t for the more than 40,000 volunteer shifts that were covered, saying the volunteers are the ones that have made Folklorama possible for 55 years. “Each pavilion offers a unique experience for visitors, but the volunteers running them are all the same: warm, welcoming, and delighted to see you.” On top of the attendance success this year, Folklorama also experienced a green initiative victory. The organization started composting this year, which it estimates allowed venues to divert around 15,000 kilograms of waste from going to the landfill. If you are already excited for what next year has in store, the 56th Folklorama Festival is already slated to run from Aug. 1 to 14, 2027.
