Premier Wab Kinew says the final report from the inquiry into the construction of the Winnipeg Police Service’s new headquarters is coming next week. During an unrelated news conference on Friday, the premier said the report will be released on Monday, nine days before Winnipeggers vote to elect a new mayor and city council. The inquiry, which took place this past spring, looked into the purchase and construction of the former Canada Post building into the Winnipeg Police Service’s headquarters. The project, which initially was budgeted at $135 million, ended up costing $214 million. In court documents, RCMP alleged the City of Winnipeg was the victim of a multimillion-dollar fraud, but no criminal charges were laid. A civil court judge concluded Phil Sheegl, the city’s former chief administrative officer, accepted a $327,000 bribe from Caspian Construction, the project’s general contractor. Sheegl denied accepting a bribe during the inquiry. The City of Winnipeg sued Caspian Construction and settled for $28 million. With files from CTV’s Jeff Keele
