A Wednesday morning fire in Winnipeg’s Exchange District has forced road closures in the area. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was first called to the blaze at a two-storey commercial building in the 100 block of McDermot Avenue around 5:45 a.m. When crews got to the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the building. Firefighters entered the burning structure and attacked the flames, declaring it under control at 6:40 a.m. No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no one was hurt. A photo submitted to CTV News shows fire crews on scene Wednesday morning at Johnny G’s restaurant, as smoke billows from its broken windows. Crews are expected to remain in the area throughout the morning. McDermot and Bannatyne avenues are closed between Rosie and Main streets. The fire is under investigation. There are no current damage estimates.
