Heat, humidity and thunderstorms are likely to return to Manitoba on Wednesday. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said a low pressure trough over Saskatchewan will move into southern and south-central Manitoba this afternoon. The trough is expected to trigger thunderstorms. While the weather agency assesses weather risks as minor for most of Manitoba in its thunderstorm outlook for Wednesday, it said a couple of severe reports of hail and wind are possible. After an unseasonably cool day on Tuesday, temperatures in the south will rise to the mid-20s Wednesday with humidex values in the upper 20s. Thunderstorms are not certain, but the chance is good of late afternoon or early evening showers or thunderstorms across the south, including Brandon and Winnipeg, as the trough crosses the region. Otherwise, the southwest should remain cloudy, while the southeast will see more of a mix of sun and cloud. Almost all northern regions also have a chance of showers or thunderstorms on Wednesday. The odds are highest in northwestern or north-central areas. The greatest certainty of showers is in Thompson tonight. We will likely hit the repeat button on Thursday. The weather agency said another low pressure trough will swing through southern Manitoba on Thursday afternoon. It could trigger another round of thunderstorms. Hazy conditions are also possible over the next couple days, according to ECCC. Wildfire smoke is expected to spread within the upper atmosphere, and will likely not have much effect on air quality at the surface.
