After a Labour Day long weekend that saw significant rainfall and severe, damaging thunderstorms in southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, strong winds have followed Tuesday. Strong and gusty westerly winds are whipping up across the south behind a low which is bringing rain to northern Manitoba this afternoon. Some of the strongest winds are expected in Winnipeg, where southwest wind gusts could reach up to 70 km/h. Winds across the rest of the south, along with northwestern Ontario, will be almost as strong. Winds will diminish this evening in Manitoba before easing up later in the evening in Ontario. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts rain and showers across most of northern Manitoba. The weather agency said the low will continue to occlude, or ring out, which will gradually bring an end to precipitation. But not before dropping as much as 10-20 mm in some areas, including Thompson and Gillam, Tuesday afternoon.
