After a hot and humid final August weekend that produced severe weather in southern Manitoba, Monday brings calmer, but varied conditions across the region. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) confirmed a tornado near Elkhorn Sunday evening, around 6:30 p.m. Other southwestern communities were drenched with rain Sunday. Kola, near the Saskatchewan border, was soaked in nearly 74 mm of rainfall, according to the weather agency. Rain and showers continue Monday across the southwest, including Brandon and Dauphin. Thunderstorms are also possible, but ECCC said no severe weather is expected Monday in the province. However, the weather agency said there may be a risk of funnel clouds over central regions and the northern Interlake, depending if there is enough clearing in those areas early Monday afternoon. Meanwhile, after an overnight thunderstorm in Winnipeg, sunshine will gradually give way to cloudier skies Monday afternoon. There is a low chance the city and surrounding regions will be clipped by evening showers. Showers, and potentially thunderstorms, will spread across much of northern Manitoba Monday. Flin Flon could see the most rainfall with 10 to 20 mm forecast this afternoon and more to come tonight. Showers will stretch from Flin Flon and Lynn Lake in the northwest to Gillam and Island Lake in the northeast throughout this afternoon and tonight. In northwestern Ontario, clouds will give way to clearing skies across the region Monday afternoon.
