Colleen Bready’s Forecast: Blizzard warning remains in northern Manitoba

After three unseasonably warm days in southern Manitoba, below normal temperatures have returned on Friday.

Meanwhile, a potent low pressure system continues to bring blizzard conditions some northern parts of the province.

The southwest is relegated to chilly single-digits daytime highs on Friday, after a cold front swept across the south on Thursday.

Daytime highs across the southeast will be a handful of degrees warmer on Friday, between 10 C and 12 C. That’s a far cry from just two days ago when temperatures catapulted to 25.1 C in Winnipeg on Wednesday.

Most of the south will see a mix of sun and cloud or cloudier skies on Friday afternoon. Showers are possible around Dauphin.

Daytime conditions should remain dry in the Interlake around Peguis First Nation as the community watches for any further flooding.

In the north, a blizzard warning continues Friday as snow and strong winds persist from Lynn Lake and Brochet in the west, through Tadoule Lake, and in Gillam in the east.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) anticipates blizzard conditions will end on Friday evening.

A winter storm warning continues for Flin Flon and surrounding areas.

The weather agency continues to warn Friday that travel will likely be hazardous. Roads could close. Prolonged utility outages and damage to some critical infrastructure are both possible.

ECCC said snow will continue in the north will continue throughout the weekend until the low moves off over Hudson Bay on Monday.

Back in Winnipeg, sunshine is expected Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low double digits. Rain is possible by Sunday night, which is expected to continue on Monday.
