Ontario Provincial Police charged one man with careless use of a firearm after another man was accidentally shot in the leg on Oct. 23. At around 4:45 p.m., police, paramedic services and the local fire department were called out to a hunting incident in Nipissing Township, OPP said in a release Monday. “Two people were on a boat on Lake Nipissing when a 12-gauge shotgun was discharged, striking one of the occupants in the leg,” police said. “The injured individual was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.” As a result, a 23-year-old Mattawa man was charged with careless use of a firearm. Police seized the shotgun as part of the investigation. The boat was also seized for further examination. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on Dec.15.
