It will be a windy, and, at times, soggy day in much of Manitoba on Thursday. A low crossing the province will enter Ontario this afternoon. On its way out, northwest winds behind the low will be strong and gusty across southern and central parts of the province. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, wind warnings won’t be needed Thursday, although areas in the lee, or southern shores, of Lake Winnipegosis, Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg could see wind gusts top 90 km/h. Showers will be intermittent and scattered in southern Manitoba while more sustained rain will fall in northwestern Ontario this afternoon. Daytime highs in southern Manitoba will only reach between 7 C and 10 C in most areas, including Winnipeg, Brandon and Dauphin. Further north, temperatures will fall to 4 C in The Pas and Flin Flon on Thursday afternoon as sunshine returns after several hours of rain courtesy of the same low affecting the south. Precipitation in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario will end Thursday night. Overnight lows on both sides of the border could drop below freezing overnight, which could make the Friday morning commute slippery, including in Winnipeg. Sunshine returns Friday, then unseasonably warm temperatures settle in on Saturday and will continue well into next week.
