After heat and humidity in July spilled over into the August long weekend, this week gets off to a cooler start. Daytime highs across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario are forecast to reach the upper teens and low 20s on Tuesday. Sky conditions are less uniform. While the sun shines in Winnipeg and across the south, northern regions will be cloudy. Scattered showers are also possible in the north-central and the northeastern areas. To the east, Tuesday will be a cooler, cloudy day with the possibility of showers. Ahead of Tuesday night, skies will be clear across the south, with lows dropping between 12 C and 10 C overnight. Dauphin will be chillier, with a low falling closer to 8 C. Meanwhile, scattered showers will likely continue in the northeast. Environment and Climate Change Canada said haze from wildfire smoke will continue across the Prairies over the next couple of days. It is expected to remain in the upper atmosphere, so air quality closer to the surface should be mostly unaffected. Warmer temperatures begin to return Wednesday to the south, along with increasing instability. This means thunderstorms are possible. Sunshine and daytime highs in the mid- to upper-20s will continue the rest of the week into the weekend.
