The City of Winnipeg is on track to complete most of this year’s road construction projects. Public Works Committee Chair Janice Lukes said a lot of the big projects are wrapping up or are completely finished due to warm, dry weather. “It really was a good summer so we’re on top of it,” Lukes said. City numbers show as of Oct. 3, 35.2 per cent of projects are complete, and another 7.6 per cent are in the post-construction phase, meaning the main roadway is done. Meanwhile, 49.2 per cent of projects remain under construction and another 5.8 per cent are in the design phase or the contract has been awarded for the project. Only 2.3 per cent of the projects will need to be deferred until next year’s construction season. Lukes anticipates most of the ongoing work will get done before winter, weather dependent. In all, these projects add up to nearly 164 lane kilometres.
