Winnipeg police say investigators have interrupted a drug trafficking operation in southern Winnipeg, which resulted in the seizure of more than 26 kilograms of cocaine. Police said officers were investigating a home in the 1-99 block of Satinwood Place and on Sept. 16, police arrested a man from the home as he was leaving. Police said he was in possession of three kilograms of cocaine when he was arrested. Officers also arrested a woman at an “unrelated address.” Investigators got a search warrant for the home and found 23.5 kilograms of cocaine, around $750,000 in cash, a conducted energy weapon, prescription pills, a vacuum sealer and drug packaging material. All the seized cocaine had a street value of $1.5 million. “This investigation in Southglen demonstrates how organized crime can operate within otherwise ordinary residential neighbourhoods. A residence can become a distribution point for criminal networks using legitimate communities as a base for their operations,” said Insp. Josh Ewatski. “The results represent a significant disruption to a criminal operation and potentially prevents further violence and harm in our community.” A 40-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were arrested and remain in custody. The man has been charged with multiple drug and weapon-related charges, while the woman is facing drug-related charges as well as possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon and assault with a weapon against an intimate partner. None of the charges have been tested in court.
