Windsor’s new east end terminal officially opened on Sunday morning. After months of construction, the new terminal was relocated to increase space and ease congestion from the Tecumseh Mall. Buses began moving in and out of the terminal at the northwest corner of Tecumseh Road East and Lauzon Parkway, at 7310 Tecumseh Road East. CTV News spoke with a few riders about their first impressions of the new terminal. Nilesh Naik, who uses the bus every Sunday, said he was surprised when they arrived at the new station, unaware it was changing. He said the new terminal was “pretty good” and is confident changes will be made if necessary. “It just now started; slowly, slowly it will improve,” he said. Multiple riders shared concerns about whether the terminal will provide the same level of protection during the winter. At the Tecumseh Mall location, Adam Prodan, a regular rider, said they had a space to retreat to when it was too cold or wet to be outside. “We had a cold winter last year. Where are we going to stand? Freeze to death?” he said. “It would be nice if they had a place where we could go and congregate, waiting for a bus or whatever.” The terminal features three glass passenger shelters with benches, and eight bus bays, along with bicycle parking. Prodan’s concerns about the shelters were echoed by Negar, a rider who, at times, has to wait 35 minutes for a connecting bus. She said the location doesn’t provide the same convenience as the old site. “Sometimes I used to stop to charge my phone, washroom, shelter, and buying some things,” she said of the former terminal. The new terminal also brings changes to stops, with the following being eliminated: Four new stops are up and running along Rose-Ville Garden Drive and Catherine Street: Updated schedules and maps can be found on Windsor’s website. It’s the second new transit terminal the City of Windsor has opened this year, after the upgraded site on Prince Road at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare was unveiled in July.
