Roundabout refresher: here’s how they work

LaSalle police have issued a reminder for drivers on how to use roundabouts now that there are several nearby.

The town has three roundabouts and there’s one roundabout just outside of town limits. There’s also a new multi-lane roundabout near the Windsor Crossing Outlet Mall, designed to improve traffic flow and safety.

Police are asking drivers to review the diagrams to understand how to navigate each type of roundabout.

Here are a few key reminders:

1. Slow down and yield to traffic already in the roundabout

2. Look out for pedestrians and cyclists

3. For the Multi-Lane and Double Lane roundabouts, choose the correct lane before entering based on your intended direction of travel. Do not change lanes within the roundabout.

4. Don’t stop inside the circle. Keep the flow of traffic moving.

5. Larger vehicles (such as transport trucks) need space within the roundabout. Do not enter with or attempt to drive beside one.

Police say roundabouts are designed to keep traffic flowing and improve safety. Drivers are encouraged to use them responsibly and be patient with drivers who may be unfamiliar with how they work.
