Meals on Wheels and Ontario SPCA and Humane Society have partnered to deliver pet food with food for seniors, helping take care of those furry family members. This partnership was sparked to address a challenge to access pet food because of limited mobility, fixed income, or transportation struggles. Pet supplies, donated by the Ontario SPCA, can now be delivered with meals. “Meals on Wheels programs do far more than deliver food, they are a vital connection point into the community,” said Lori Holloway, CEO of the Ontario Community Support Association, which runs the Meals on Wheels program. “This partnership reflects how organizations can work together to respond to real, everyday challenges seniors face. It’s a practical example of how community-based care supports the whole person, not just clinical needs.” According to the OCSA, evidence has shown that pets reduce loneliness and support mental well-being in seniors. This support will help maintain health and prevent complex needs overtime, improving client outcomes.
