A man and woman have been arrested after a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of a handgun and almost $10,000 in illegal drugs. Windsor police say the man has also been charged in relation to a separate firearm incident. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 2600 block of Vine Court shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested the 21-year-old man passenger for breaching his release conditions. During the arrest, the 50-year-old female driver obstructed officers and was also taken into custody. With the assistance of K9 Smoke and his handler, officers searched the vehicle and seized the following items: • Sig Sauer handgun with ammunition • 35.2 grams of cocaine • 95.9 grams of crystal methamphetamine • 20.6 grams of fentanyl • 37 oxycodone tablets • Five morphine capsules • 1.5 Clonazepam tablets • Eight Naloxone tablets • Two digital scales • Five cellular phones • $3,375 in Canadian currency The total value of drugs seized was about $9,960. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old man and 50-year-old woman have each been charged with: • Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm • Possession of an unloaded firearm • Contravention of section 117 of the Firearms Act • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (x 4) The 21-year-old is additionally charged with: • Failing to comply with a release order (x 2) • Possession of a prohibited firearm without a licence • Possession of a prohibited device without authority The 50-year-old woman is additionally charged with: • Possession of a prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration • Unlicensed person in possession of a prohibited weapon • Obstructing a peace officer Following the arrests, officers also connected the 21-year-old man to a road rage incident that occurred Jan. 11 in the area of Central Avenue and Tecumseh Road East. The suspect is alleged to have pointed a firearm at another motorist and uttered threats before fleeing the scene.
