Families reel in memories at 15th Annual Windsor Police Fishing Derby

Kids cast their lines while fathers caught smiles at the 15th annual Windsor Police Association Fishing Derby.

The event was held at Dieppe Park on Sunday morning, thanks to Windsor Police Constable Sean Patterson, whose love for fishing inspired the creating of this Father’s Day tradition.

“It’s the best way of having kids and their fathers come out and make memories,” he said.

With help from the Windsor Police Association, generous sponsors, and food provided by Just Jeff’s, the community event welcomed families from all walks of life. Foster parent Stewart Lucier brought TJ Lucas to the derby.

“It’s a nice to be able to bond with the kids. They need someone special in their life. Sometimes they don’t have that,” Lucier shared.

“I was excited to come here because he took me. It’s actually so fun,” Lucas beamed.

Sarah Lee attended with her two sons, taking a moment to recognize families facing Father’s Day without their patriarch.

“A special shout out to families celebrating without their special father. We still celebrate him even though he’s not here,” she said.
