American fined for illegal fishing on Lake Erie

A man from Belleville, Mich. has been fined for illegal fishing on Lake Erie.

In May of last year, a conservation officer was patrolling the lake near Amherstburg. The officer said they saw the suspect on a fishing boat with five lines in the water, three more than legally allowed.

A further inspection revealed the man had 12 walleye and no valid Ontario fishing license.

The man pled guilty to fishing without a license and fishing with extra lines. As a result, he was fined $1,700 and is prohibited from having an Ontario fishing license and doing any fishing activities in Ontario for a year.

12 walleye and the man’s fishing gear were also seized.
