VICTORIA - Victoria police called in a sniper and fire department ladder truck to help arrest two men who were hiding on a hotel rooftop after a jewelry store robbery Thursday.
A woman was also arrested in the heist at Paul Mara Jewelers, in which two men hit staff with bear spray before making off with a stash of jewelry and other valuables.
Witnesses pointed police to the nearby Bedford Hotel on Government Street and police called in the Emergency Response Team to conduct a floor-by-floor search of the building.
A sniper from the team was placed on a nearby rooftop as a precaution, since there were concerns the suspects were armed.
But the two men, both 27, were arrested without violence.
Police say all three suspects are from the Metro Vancouver area.
