Mechanical issues prompted the cancellation of several sailings between Greater Victoria and Metro Vancouver Sunday, according to BC Ferries. Difficulty with the Spirit of Vancouver Island’s starboard generator has put the vessel out of service for the remainer of the day. As of noon Sunday, the following sailings were cancelled between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen: BC Ferries said customer service will reach out to people with bookings on the cancelled sailings to inform them if they can be fit on an alternate trip or if they have to cancel. Other vessels, namely the Spirit of British Columbia, Coastal Renaissance, and Queen of New Westminster, were still operating on the major route Sunday afternoon, though many were full or nearly full for vehicle space. BC Ferries said passengers can use the Tsawwassen-Duke Point (Nanaimo) route as an alternative. “We continue to investigate the issue and will keep you informed as more information becomes available. As soon as the problem is resolved, the vessel will start service,” BC Ferries wrote in a notice. “We know you have important places to be. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience.”
