Vancouver gas prices dip below $2/L as federal tax pause takes effect

BC Ferries service is expected to be back to normal Monday following a police incident at the Horseshoe Bay terminal on Sunday.

There was some relief at the pumps for drivers in Metro Vancouver as a pause on the federal government’s gas tax took effect Monday.

Many motorists were able to fuel up for less than $2 per litre—a drop of 14 cents from what many stations were charging Friday.

Officials have said the suspension of Canada’s fuel excise tax would likely save 10 cents per litre on regular gas and four cents per litre on diesel, amid surging global energy costs triggered by the U.S. and Israel’s war on Iran.

The pause is scheduled to remain in effect until Labour Day.
