Two people were arrested after crashing a stolen truck in Surrey Thursday afternoon, police say. The Surrey Police Service told CTV News that officers were driving in the 5600 block of 144 Street at around 3:41 p.m. when their automatic license plate reader identified a truck reported stolen in Vancouver the night before. Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said officers followed from a distance until the Air 1 helicopter, operated by the B.C. RCMP, was called to assist. “The vehicle was observed by Air 1 driving erratically off and on but was followed by Air 1 until 104 (Street) and South Perimeter Road, where the stolen truck struck a few vehicles and stopped,” he said. Photos obtained by CTV News show the truck’s front end heavily damaged, with multiple police cruisers parked nearby. “The driver was arrested without issue, but the passenger was involved in a short foot pursuit before being arrested,” Houghton said. Police say both the driver and passenger are in custody and face multiple property and driving-related charges.
