Authorities are urging drivers to be responsible behind the wheel after catching a Tesla driver zooming through B.C.’s Lower Mainland at more than double the posted speed limit. B.C. Highway Patrol said an officer clocked the white Tesla going 191 km/h along Highway 17 in Delta, near 36 Avenue, which is an 80 km/h zone. In a news release, the RCMP noted going that fast “can make you miss crucial information” on the roads – such as a parked police car with emergency lights activated. The officer was able to catch up to the Tesla just up the highway, said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “The police officer knew the driver would soon got stuck in the same city traffic as everyone else, and was able to pull the driver over,” said McLaughlin, in a statement. “Excessive speeding is not only dangerous, but it often does not get you to where you’re going any faster. That’s before you even consider the $483 ticket and losing your vehicle.” The driver is a 20-year-old man from Brampton, Ont., authorities said. The Tesla, which is owned by a Surrey resident, was impounded for seven days.
