Police in Chilliwack, B.C., say nearly two dozen people were detained last week when officers executed search warrants at two homes as part of a drug-trafficking investigation. Officers were acting on information about two adjacent properties on Victoria Street, which were searched on Sept. 17. The Chilliwack RCMP said in a statement Friday that 23 people were detained during the execution of the search warrants. All the suspects were released pending further investigation except two people “who were found to have outstanding unendorsed warrants for their arrest and were held in custody on those matters,” the RCMP said. Investigators seized suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine during the searches, according to police. Cash and a firearm were also confiscated. City bylaw officers have attended the homes and posted notices barring occupancy “to deter individuals from returning to the residences,” police said. No charges have been laid in relation to the drug-trafficking investigation, but police said the investigation is ongoing.
