One man is dead and another had to be airlifted to hospital after two unrelated daylight shootings in Abbotsford Monday. The Abbotsford Police Department said officers were called to the first shooting at 9:22 a.m. in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive. “One adult male was shot. As a precaution, three nearby schools were briefly placed under a shelter-in-place protocol. No students were harmed or directly impacted,” an initial statement posted online said. In an update Monday afternoon, the Abbotsford Police Department said the victim, a 68-year-old man, was found in a parked vehicle. “Despite lifesaving medical efforts of first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries. No arrests have been made at this time,” the statement from the department said. “The investigation is still in its early stages, and additional resources have been deployed to support efforts in uncovering the full circumstances surrounding this incident.” The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team also confirmed it was deployed to the scene. “Shooting appears to be targeted, and investigation is in the early stages,” a social media post from the agency said. Anyone with information on the fatal shooting is urged to call IHIT at 1-877-551-4448. The second shooting, at a home on George Ferguson Way near Ware Street, was reported at around 11:45 a.m., according to authorities. The victim, a 41-year-old man, was found with “what is believed to be a gunshot wound” and was airlifted to hospital with “serious injuries,” the Abbotsford Police Department said in a statement. A suspect was taken into custody at the scene, police added. “At this time, this incident is being treated as targeted and is not believed to be connected to the ongoing extortion-related investigations or the earlier homicide on Ridgeview Drive,” the statement from AbbyPD said.
