Homicide investigators have identified the man gunned down in Surrey, B.C., this week as a 56-year-old with no criminal history. Abbotsford resident Satwinder Sharma was “at his place of work” in Surrey’s Fleetwood neighbourhood when he was killed Wednesday afternoon, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Thursday. The shooting happened at a business near 160th Street and 84 Avenue, across the street from the Fleetwood Community Centre. “There is high foot traffic in this area, and we are fortunate that no one else was hurt,” said IHIT’s Sgt. Freda Fong, in a statement. Sharma died at the scene, despite life-saving efforts from first responders. Several businesses on the block were surrounded by Surrey Police Officers following the shooting on Wednesday, and authorities have not said which one the victim was working at when he was killed. Investigators said Sharma appears to have been targeted, but they are still piecing together a possible motive. “IHIT continues to work closely with Mr. Sharma’s family and our thoughts are with them during this very difficult time,” Fong said.
