Police say a man has been charged in connection with two break-ins in South Vancouver on Thursday morning. The Vancouver Police Department said officers were first called to a break-in at a home near East 49th Avenue and McKinnon Street, then to a second at a home near West 48th Street and Ontario Street—approximately five kilometres apart, according to Google Maps. In the first incident, police said an intruder removed a window screen at around 9:45 a.m. before the homeowner heard noises and left a shower to confront him. He then fled without stealing anything, police added. The VPD said a man matching the same description allegedly broke a window and entered the home in the second incident, before stealing several items and leaving. Officers with police dogs later found and arrested a suspect. The VPD said 64-year-old Daryl Silas Hunt has since been charged with one count of break and enter, and one count of attempted break and enter. Online court records show that Hunt remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 15. “Investigators believe the suspect may be linked to additional break-ins in Vancouver. Anyone who has experienced a break-in and has not yet reported it to police is asked to contact the VPD and file a report,” the VPD said, in a release.
