Police in Kamloops, B.C., say 35 people were arrested and nearly as many weapons were seized during a three-day enforcement blitz targeting organized crime and prolific offenders in the city. The Kamloops RCMP said it conducted proactive patrols and vehicle stops in high-crime areas of Kamloops and Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc from Sept. 3 to 5. The enforcement generated 24 investigations and led to the arrest of 35 people, police said in a news release Monday. No criminal charges were announced following the arrests, but police said the blitz also led to the seizure of 32 weapons, 159 grams of illicit drugs and $1,755 in cash that investigators described as “offence-related.” A stolen vehicle was also recovered during the campaign, according to the release. Supt. Jeff Pelley says the enforcement effort highlights the Kamloops RCMP detachment’s commitment to community safety through targeted policing. “The team remains focused on disrupting alleged organized crime, drug trafficking, and prolific offenders while continuing enforcement efforts throughout Kamloops and Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc,” Pelley said in a statement. The RCMP detachment said the operation was supported in part by funding received through B.C.’s Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement Program, or SITE. Police said the funding allows the Kamloops RCMP to provide officers with specialized training in targeting violent and high-risk offenders.
