A married couple from B.C.’s Lower Mainland is taking off after winning a $500,000 lottery prize last week. The lucky Lotto Max players, publicly identified as Delta residents Howard H. and Belkiss L., took home the maximum Extra prize in the Jan. 16 draw. Howard told the B.C. Lottery Corporation the first thing he thought after scanning their winning ticket was, “I’m out of here!” He shared the news with Belkiss while picking her up from work and said, “We’re going shopping,” according to a BCLC news release. Belkiss said she couldn’t believe their luck until checking the ticket for herself. “Then I started jumping and screaming,” she added. Apart from some yet-unplanned travel, the couple said they’re considering buying a new car. Their ticket was purchased at the FreshCo supermarket on Ladner Trunk Road in Delta, officials said. The odds of matching all four Extra numbers to win a $500,000 prize are approximately one in 3.76 million, according to the BCLC.
