An impaired driver crashed into the front yard of a home in B.C.’s Fraser Valley over the weekend after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run, according to police. Authorities shared an image of the collision scene showing a Cadillac Escalade that had come to a stop outside a home in Abbotsford’s Townline Hill neighbourhood on Sunday. “The driver fled the scene of a hit-and-run, then crashed into the front yard of a residence,” the Abbotsford Police Department wrote in a social media post Monday. “He was arrested and provided a breath sample more than 2.5 times the legal limit.” Sgt. Paul Walker told CTV News the collision damaged the landscaping of the property—located near Ridgeview Drive and Blueridge Drive—but that no one was hurt. The hit-and-run happened a short time earlier at the intersection of Townline Road and Downes Road, where the SUV crashed with a van, Walker said. No injuries were reported in that collision either. Authorities said they are planning to recommend charges of impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of a collision against the Escalade driver, a 53-year-old Abbotsford resident who has not been publicly identified. He was among 30 allegedly impaired motorists Abbotsford police pulled off the road between Friday evening and Monday morning. Since the start of the year, the department has stopped 549 impaired drivers in the city, Walker said.
