A businessman from B.C.’s Lower Mainland has shared disturbing surveillance video showing two people attacking him with baseball bats in front of his wife and child. The recording shows John Ling, owner of Canadian Aviation College, walking toward his Pitt Meadows home on Sept. 26 when the assailants rush over and begin beating him. The victim is struck several times, falling to the ground as his wife attempts to intervene in the violent attack. She is eventually pushed over, but not hit with a bat. The two attackers then run away from the scene. Ling’s lawyer Russell Robertson said the RCMP is investigating the incident, but that his client decided to publicize the surveillance video in the hopes of eliciting more tips. “It appears to be targeted,” Robertson said. The victim believes the attack was orchestrated by someone who knows him, the lawyer added. “He is, of course, fearful that whoever ordered this will, you know, want to finish the job and attack him again,” Robertson said. Ling provided video to CTV News showing much of his body covered in bruises. Robertson says his client’s family has fled the country out of fear of their safety. “Sometimes shining a spotlight on this is better than keeping it bottled up,” said Robertson.
