For the third year in a row, the work of CTV News Vancouver journalists has been recognized with multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards. The station won the Hard News and Breaking News awards in the large-market television category, international region, announced by the Radio Television Digital News Association on Thursday. “The quality of entries for these awards is phenomenal, so to be recognized in this way means a lot for the journalists here at CTV News who work hard every day to get it right,” said Ethan Faber, the station’s news director. Reporter Michele Brunoro was honoured for a story on disgraced former Vancouver police detective Jim Fisher, and a new investigation that was launched following a complaint against him from a former sex trafficking survivor. Brunoro and fellow reporter Ben Miljure were also part of CTV News Vancouver’s award-winning breaking coverage, anchored by Mi-Jung Lee, on the flooding in B.C.’s Fraser Valley last fall. Waters from the Nooksack River in Washington state flowed into the province in December, damaging homes, closing highways, and killing livestock at a number of farms. All of the regional winners will be up for national Edward R. Murrow Awards—named after the legendary U.S. broadcast journalist—which will be handed out later this year.
