Local news is a 24-hour operation, with coverage constantly updated online and on social media. But across the country, the hard work also comes together weeknights on the six o’clock news. On Saturday night at a presentation in Toronto, CTV Vancouver’s weeknight 6 p.m. newscast was named the best local television newscast in all of Canada. The Radio Television and Digital News Association (RTDNA) picked Vancouver’s CTV News at 6—hosted by veteran CTV journalist Mi-Jung Lee—as the winner of its best newscast award in the large market television category. In handing out the award, the organization singled out the station’s coverage of a major Metro Vancouver snowstorm last winter. Related: CTV News Vancouver wins 6 RTDNA awards, including best newscast The RTDNA also awarded CTV News Vancouver journalist St John Alexander with its award for Canada’s best video journalism of the year for a story on one of the region’s most poorly maintained roads. “Putting together a local newscast is truly a team effort,” said the station’s news director Ethan Faber. “From the research and planning to the camera work and the editing, to the writing and technical production—and of course the presentation itself, everyone who works at CTV News plays an essential role in making sure we’re providing the community with high quality local journalism.” Canada’s best local newscast runs weeknights at 6 PM on CTV Vancouver and is always available online on the CTV News Vancouver website.
