A Coquitlam man who was arrested in mid-July has been charged with six counts of firearms-related offences, police said. The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. said its illegal firearms enforcement team began investigating 35-year-old Saadiq Azimali Daya in June and executed search warrants at homes in Surrey and Coquitlam on July 16. Daya was arrested during the search in Coquitlam without incident, the CFSEU-BC said, noting that investigators found and seized multiple firearms in the home, including a Beretta 92FS .22 and a Beretta M9A3 9 mm. Daya has since been charged with the following: • Two counts of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm (a Beretta 92FS .22 and a Beretta M9A3 9 mm) without being the holder of the required authorization, licence, and registration certificate. • Two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm at a location other than one authorized under the Firearms Act • Two counts of storing a restricted firearm (a Beretta 92FS .22 and a Beretta M9A3 9 mm) contrary to the Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations made under the Firearms Act. The CFSEU-BC said Daya remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 10.
