B.C. woman plans to buy car, complete home upgrades after $400K scratch-and-win prize

A B.C. woman is nearly half-a-million dollars richer after landing one of the top prizes from a scratch-and-win lottery ticket.

In a news release Monday, the B.C. Lottery Corporation said a Powell River resident won $400,000 through its Big Spin game.

Marguerite K. told the BCLC that she likes to try different scratch-and-win tickets, and had asked an employee for a recommendation while shopping at a Save-On-Foods in Powell River Town Centre.

The retailer suggested the Big Spin ticket, which ultimately earned Marguerite the chance to spin the prize wheel at the BCLC’s office in Vancouver.

Players who reveal a “Big Spin” symbol on their ticket automatically qualify for the Big Spin winners event, where prizes range from a guaranteed $100,000 to $500,000.

“The retailer was more excited than I was,” Marguerite told the BCLC.

When she arrived at the event on Thursday, she spun the wheel and ended up winning big.

“I wondered if it would stop at $400,000,” she said. “Then when it did, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, wow, it did.’”

Marguerite said she already knows how she wants to spend her winnings, including buying a new car and completing renovations on her home.
