A young woman is dead after an early morning e-scooter collision in downtown Vancouver Saturday, police say. Around 5:30 a.m., a man and a woman were riding an e-scooter north on Seymour Street when they collided with a transit bus in the intersection of West Pender Street, according to a statement from the Vancouver Police Department. The VPD said the riders were not wearing helmets, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Speaking to reporters at the VPD station on Graveley Street in East Vancouver Saturday afternoon, Sgt. Adam Donaldson said the woman was 19 years old and the man was in his early 20s. “From the evidence, it seems as though she almost died immediately,” Donaldson said. Police said the man was not injured, and B.C. Emergency Health Services told CTV News it dispatched paramedics to the scene, but transported no patients. The VPD is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam or other video from the scene to contact its collision investigation unit by calling 604-717-3012 or emailing vpdciu@vpd.ca. “We’re hoping that the video will help us determine which one of the people (was) riding the e-scooter, the man or the woman, and if they had the right of way when they entered the intersection,” Donaldson said. The incident closed Pender Street to traffic between Richards and Granville streets for several hours, prompting TransLink to re-route buses in the area. By 9 a.m., the detours had cleared, according to the transit provider.
