One person is dead and another seriously injured after a rollover crash that shut down Highway 1 in Abbotsford. The Abbotsford Police Department says officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1 near Cole Road just before 2 a.m., where they found a vehicle that had left the roadway and rolled into the centre median. Two people were inside the vehicle when emergency crews arrived. Both received immediate medical treatment at the scene. The driver was airlifted to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, police say the passenger died at the scene. Police say the investigation remains in its early stages and is being led by the Patrol Section, with assistance from the Traffic Enforcement Unit and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service. Police told CTV News that preliminary evidence suggests the vehicle was travelling west on Highway 1 when the driver lost control. The vehicle rolled before coming to rest in the centre median. According to police, investigators believe impairment may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The collision prompted the closure of Highway 1 in both directions for several hours as investigators examined the scene. As of 8:30 a.m., one lane in each direction had reopened to traffic. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, saw the vehicle before the collision, or has dash camera video to contact the Abbotsford Police Department.
