TORONTO — Lewis Morgan and Djordje Mihailovic came off the bench to score in second-half stoppage time as Toronto FC roared back late to pick up a 2-1 victory over CF Montreal on Saturday. Morgan converted a Niklas Dorsch cross in the third extra minute before Mihailovic redirected a pass from Theo Corbeanu two minutes later to complete the comeback for Toronto (7-10-11). Daniel Rios scored a rebound goal early in the second half that pushed Montreal (6-16-6) in front in the latest edition of the 401 Derby. After midfielder Matty Longstaff was stopped, Rios knocked in his sixth goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Toronto halted a three-game slide and extended its unbeaten streak to five matches at BMO Field since the FIFA World Cup break. Toronto head coach Robin Fraser’s side had its opportunities after the Montreal goal. Left back Matheur Pereira floated a shot from outside the box, narrowly missing the top corner in the 68th minute. Corbeanu was then stopped off the wing by a diving stop from goalkeeper Sebastian Breza. Toronto enjoyed the better chances in the 0-0 first half. Breza made two dazzling stops against Daniel Salloi and Matheus Pereira from close quarters in the 11th minute. Josh Sargent also shook loose in the box, but Montreal defender Brayan Vera recovered in time to knock the ball over the crossbar behind the Ottawa-born Breza in the 37th minute. Six minutes later, Salloi’s bender from outside the box narrowly missed the left post. Toronto lost goalkeeper Luka Gavran in the 23rd minute to a leg injury after the Hamilton collided with Montreal captain Prince Owusu in the 15th minute. Owusu called for a foul. Gavran was attended to and stayed in until stepping aside for backup William Yarbrough. The 37-year-old Mexican-born Yarbrough made his first appearance for Toronto and first MLS action since suiting up with San Jose on Sept. 21, 2024. Yarbrough made his first save on Alexis Sanchez’s attempt from outside the box in the 36th minute. Up next Montreal: Hosts Atlanta United on Wednesday. Toronto: Hosts Orlando City on Wednesday.
