Gimenez, Blue Jays topple Mariners 8-2 to even ALCS at 2-2

SEATTLE — Andres Gimenez had a two-run homer and two-run single to lift the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night in the American League Championship Series.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his second home run of the series, while George Springer and Daulton Varsho also drove in runs for the Blue Jays, who evened the best-of-seven series at 2-2.

Max Scherzer struck out five batters and allowed three hits, two runs and four walks in 5 2/3 innings in his first start of the post-season for Toronto.

Josh Naylor of Mississauga, Ont., opened the scoring with a solo shot for the Mariners. Eugenio Suarez had an RBI single to make it a 5-2 game before Guerrero and Gimenez drove in the final three Jays runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Toronto has now won back-to-back games since dropping the opening two of the series at home. Game 5 will go Friday evening in Seattle, with games 6 and 7, if necessary, in Toronto.

Kevin Gausman will start on the mound in Game 5 for the Blue Jays.
