Police rescued nine people who were “clinging” to a capsized vessel near Port Credit Harbour Marina on Saturday night. Peel Regional Police’s Marine Unit responded to a distress call just after 5 p.m. at the marina in Lake Ontario. Officers said they found the overturned boat about 50 metres south of the Ridgetown breakwall. The vessel was located in “challenging conditions,” police said, as there were high winds and up to three-metre-high waves. Peel police said all nine passengers were “safely” rescued and taken back to the marina. “They sustained only minor abrasions and there were no major injuries reported,” police said in an email to CP24. “All the stars aligned for a very quick and efficient rescue by our Marine unit.” Police said a Good Samaritan also helped by transporting one of the nine individuals to shore before officers arrived at the scene. Peel police said they later found the capsized boat near the west side of the Credit River, but they did not recover the vessel citing hazardous water and weather conditions.
